‘Choose our future’ flyer just CVRD propaganda
Re: CVRD publication “Choose our future”
I wasn’t aware that it was the CVRD administration’s role to espouse political issues — and the above-noted is clearly a political issue. It is so political that the CVRD board is sending it to referendum. My understanding is that the board has been inundated with a great number of contrary comments, yet there is no mention of those views in the CVRD administration’s “Choose our future” flyer.
First the inappropriate use of Area Planning Commission members to act as shills for this issue, now a brazen proposal for the expenditure of tax dollars in an attempt to directly influence CVRD taxpayers on a very political issue.
I endorse helping those who “cannot help themselves” but not those who “will not help themselves”. If one cannot afford to live in the Valley because one’s earnings do not permit they need only do what many of us have done — move where they can afford to live.
Some unanswered questions are: where do the folk who would be granted this assistance live now? What is it about one’s current housing that would qualify one for assistance under the proposed Cowichan Housing Association plans? Who would live in the housing they abandon? What would become of that housing?
This proposal, developed by the Cowichan Housing Association and parroted by CVRD staff, has no solid objectives. No definitions. No qualifying conditions. It consists only of “noble” ideas. Oh yes, and one must not forget also a minimum of three-quarters of a million tax dollars repeating annually.
The taxpayers of the Valley are entitled to more than a noble idea prior to permitting the CVRD to spend their money.
