We’ve watched the plays, read the cards, heard the songs, and find ourselves in the aftermath of a season with its momentary events and temporary gifts. How soon the peace and goodwill to all mankind evaporates in the hustle and bustle of ‘normal’ life. Was that it till next December?
The answer lies in a Bible verse (John 3:16) “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”
God loved us so deeply that He gave Himself in the person of Jesus Christ – the ultimate gift that goes beyond the season. It is for the world – everyone. It can be accepted by anyone who wants it – no exceptions. The Bible also says that “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
We accept this gift by believing, not by good works or intentions or admiring Jesus. Many people first want their intellectual difficulties solved or think they need to do good works to earn this salvation Gift. That’s the point of a gift…
We are also faced with the two ultimate extremes of human destiny. “Perish” covers all those who reject this ultimate Gift – for there is no eternal life outside of Christ.
However, the promise of this verse, through faith in Jesus Christ, is eternal life – starting now.
The season with its paraphernalia has come and gone and will return in December. But the ultimate Gift, Jesus Christ, has been given by God to all with the promise of life eternal. This promise has no price, sell-by date or limit – it is for all who believe.
Now that sounds like Christmas every day! Have you accepted this Gift from God?
