Civic vote

I have lived here all of my life and never cease to be amazed at the antics of political candidates come election time.

I have lived here all of my life and never cease to be amazed at the antics of political candidates come election time.

I, like you folks, live here, not Kelowna, Penticton, Kamloops, Winnipeg or Toronto, so when candidates spout percentages of comparison, what comes to mind is this: Vernon is doing its business — infrastructure, roads, maintenance, policing, in co-operation with our neighbours, making sure we are being looked after.

Council’s discussions with our outlying neighbours are constructive, disagreements usually involve money. Our council is responsible to us as taxpayers, so council’s concern is having the outlying areas carry their share of the costs.

None of our city councillors are doing their job for the money. They live, work and play here, and they are doing a great job. So get out and vote and tell them they are doing a good job. We are not going to hell in a handcart as some people profess, so watch out for the truckload of bean sprouts that are being spread around the city.

My bottom line is a question to make you think. If we as a city, are supposedly overloaded with employees, how come our taxes have only gone up by .24 of one per cent? That number I understand and can certainly live with.

Great job, council, carry on the vision. Thank you.
