Clear the clutter and fly

Columnist Ann Turner lists some tools to prepare for the spring season

The Butterfly Maiden is a Hopi tribe Spirit guide who is all about ensuring good crops and the beginning of spring. She helps with breaking free of any situation that binds you – like the butterfly escapes from a cocoon and emerges with new wings ready to fly out into the world.

I chose to write about getting rid of the clutter in your life, as the coming of spring seems to be a perfect time to honour the Butterfly Maiden and the changes that Spring brings about. It’s about rebirth after a long winter, a chance to hit the “reset” button in your life, and move forward leaving the old things behind that made you feel trapped, whether that is relationships, jobs or old ideas and beliefs.

Anyone out there holding onto stuff that you haven’t used in years? I bet you are, I know I have – but having had to move from a huge house to a basement suite after I got divorced forced me to make some pretty brutal decisions as I just didn’t have the room.

I must say it felt good to let go of the negative energy and memories that were attached to the stuff. I decided that anything that made me feel sad in any way when I looked at it had to go! I did not want to be reminded of the negativity, and I certainly did not want to carry that energy into my new life.

Bear in mind that two energies cannot occupy the same space, so in order for the new to come in, it’s necessary to let go of the old. It’s not the stuff that is the problem, it’s the emotional attachments you have to it that clog up your life, your energy field and it actually creates a barrier around you so that you cannot move forward at all. It’s like swimming through wet cement. If you feel stuck in your life, that means there is something in your consciousness that is creating a blockage, and you are unwilling to let go of it.

There is another thing at play here too – the scenario of “oh I may need it one day.” If you hang onto things because you think you may need one day – then this is a negative affirmation of the belief in lack. You are programming your subconscious to believe that you will never have enough, and that your needs will not be met in the future. You are now creating a self – fulfilling prophecy of never having enough, either in the past, present, or future. Wow. Do we really want to do this?

I believe in self – analysis, and I have no problem asking myself the tough questions, and looking deeper into what is really going on. It has helped me tremendously through the years, and I begin every day with Gratitude for all the good in my life. I teach this in my private sessions and workshops, and my new website: www.thewisdomoftheherd.com is now live, so do visit and let me know your thoughts.

In the meantime, take a look at your life and ask yourself whether changes are needed – on a mental, emotional and physical level. You may be surprised what you find, so ask the beautiful Butterfly Maiden for help and support in coming out of your cocoon so you can fly into the world with new wings – beautiful, joyous, and unrestricted. The time for positive change is here – Namaste.
