Clearwater pet owners need to be held responsible

I write this letter because of my frustration with people who own big dogs and who do not take responsibility when their dogs run off their property

Editor, The Times:

I write this letter because of my frustration with people who own big dogs and who do not take responsibility when their dogs run off their property and attack my small pets. Unfortunately, this has happened more than once and it needs to stop. Owners need to be accountable for such matters instead of making excuses and not making changes for the better.

I should be able to walk outside my door, dog leashes in hand and return home without incident.

For people out there dealing with this sort of thing, the RCMP has advised me that there are no dog bylaws for Clearwater. In order to get a bylaw passed, the RCMP advised to make complaints to the District of Clearwater office. When enough complaints are reported a bylaw could be passed for Clearwater dealing with difficult owners and their dogs.

Please be a voice for your pets. We as citizens have rights and I know for me, my pets are not going to be seriously injured or worse (death) without my being heard. Thank-you to the RCMP for advising me and I hope I too can help others.
