Climate change probably not largest factor in Brexit

Re: Editorial “Arguments against climate change connection are weak” in the July 14 issue.

The conclusion of my guest editorial (“How strong is the connection between climate change and Brexit” in the July 7 issue) wasn’t that there is no connection between climate change and Brexit but that climate change is only one, and probably not the largest, among several contributing factors (long-term natural climate change, anthropogenic climate change, increasing water consumption due to rising population and expanding agriculture and industry, and government failure to maintain and enlarge reservoirs and irrigation systems).

This response amounts essentially to an appeal to authority coupled with oversimplification. I stand by the chain of reasoning I offered.
