As I’m writing this I’m staring out onto grey, Agassiz scenery. Midweek was definitely a bit dreary around here. But my eyes are on the weekend, and I’m hoping for sun and sand to carry me and the kids through it.
If you’re like me, you’re going to be trying to squeeze the most out of the rest of this summer. Thankfully, I’m seeing lots of opportunity to do that and thought I’d share a few ideas with the rest of you wonderful parents, gracious grandparents and stressed out babysitters counting off the days until school returns.
First there’s the Abbotsford Airshow this weekend. I know it’s not local, but I’m going for the first time in 20 years and am especially looking forward to seeing the “wall of fire” descend on the airstrip. I’m also looking forward to my kids faces immediately after.
I’ll be heading off for holidays in short time, and leaving your community news in the capable hands of Brett Bonderud.
While I’m away, be sure to catch the rest of the summer events lined up.
Locally, there are a couple of Twilight Series left, every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Pioneer Park, a farmers market or two left, and music on the beach Wednesday nights in front of Muddy Waters in Harrison. And that’s just the short list.
But the finishing touch on summertime in the valley has got to be the free Movie in the Park, to be held on September 2 behind the Agassiz Fitness/Activity Centre. This year they’ll show one movie, Cars 2. Personally, I’m glad they cut down to one film showing from two, as my kids just can’t make it through two movies, and they’re getting pretty heavy to haul back to the car, asleep in my arms. Especially the teenaged one.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, drive safe and I’ll see you all soon.
