COLUMN: Summerland Museum offers geological bus tours

July is cruising right along and, just like every summer there is absolutely no shortage of things to be done around Summerland.

July is cruising right along and, just like every summer there is absolutely no shortage of things to be done around Summerland.

I’ve been enjoying the variety of music that’s been happening as well as some of the more interactive classes and events that have been going on lately.

It’s a good time of year to be a Summerlander and it’s perfect for those who are visiting and looking for something a little different to do.

For those looking to find out something more about the ground beneath our feet, the Summerland Museum is offering geological bus tours to help teach folks a thing or two about Summerland they might not have otherwise known about.

The first of these tours takes place on July 23 starting at 10 a.m.

Tours like this are a wonderful way to spend a few hours and an even better way to really get to know a community.

The entire Okanagan Valley is a geological wonderland and Summerland is no exception. This tour is one that isn’t to be missed.

Advanced booking is required.

For more information or to book your spot visit the Summerland Museum or call 250-494-9395.

For those who enjoy creating and wine tastings, you’ll want to be sure to check out Summerland Corks and Canvas.

This wonderful event pairs painting with wine tasting in a way that is bound to produce some fantastic paintings.

If nothing else, any shyness about painting will melt away after a tasting or two. I know a glass of wine certainly helps quiet down my inner critic when I’m drawing or painting.

More information about this class can be found online at www.summerlandarts.com.

If you’re looking for music this week, be sure to check out Thornhaven Winery, Dirty Laundry and Wednesdays on the Water, down at Peach Orchard Beach.

Douglas Paton is a Summerland writer and musician. If you know of a local arts and culture event, contact him at dgpaton80@gmail.com.
