Concerns from neighbours of proposed supportive housing project

Re: Supportive housing project on White Road

Mayor and council – City of Duncan, and provincial housing authority!

My wife and I live in a 55 plus condo on First Street, which is about three blocks from this project. Over the last few years we have had numerous incidents on our property, and we even had a break-in at our property, which is very upsetting to all our tenants. We don’t want this to happen again.

We are writing this letter because we are very concerned about your new housing project on White Road.

We realize that the area is getting a bit old, but there is lots of new construction in the area, making the area new and modern.

There are numerous 55 plus condos in the area and we should not have to put up with the homeless and drug addicts camping out on our property.

We are not opposed to affordable housing, but we are very concerned as to how this new property will be managed. We understand that it will be managed by a non-profit society.

We would like know in simple terms as too how this will be kept under control, with 50 homeless people in the building, and able to come and go as they please.

Also we would like to know if the tenants will have their drug supply on the premises.

How many people will be working at this facility and with what qualifications?

The city and the provincial housing authority have been very irresponsible in setting up this program — they are not being very transparent and forthcoming with information.

We as residents of Duncan elected the mayor and council to represent the taxpayers, but we have NOT been represented by this council on this project.

Please consider at your next meeting, to rescind the third reading of this bill and announce a public hearing for all residents so we can get the proper information on this project.

Thank you for listening.

P.S. Please, do Duncan proud on this project!
