Concert band gets round of applause

To the Editor,

One of the most pleasant times one can spend in this town is to attend a Nanaimo Concert Band show. At the spring event, the Port Theatre was nearly full and the audience, enthusiastic.

Director Gerry Klaassen is a consummate entertainer and the two-hour program whisked us through old movements to the familiar contemporary geniuses.

My heart swells with gratitude that the forefathers established the band in 1872. Many dedicated volunteers have kept it going, showcasing talent for over 140 years. Each of the approximately 50 band members is a facet of this precious jewel in our midst.
