Congratulations to the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce, which has been honoured as the 2014 B.C. Chamber of the Year!
The Chamber and its volunteers do an amazing job representing and promoting businesses, and advocating for Williams Lake. Way to go!
Some great news for Williams Lake and other B.C. municipalities was announced last week, as the federal and provincial governments and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities signed an agreement that will renew federal gas tax funding for the next 10 years.
Williams Lake will receive roughly $500,000 in each of the first five years, to be used on infrastructure projects chosen based on local priorities.
Partnerships like this help cities to build infrastructure without having to go to the local taxpayer for the full amount of the funding needed.
The Williams Lake Community Forest held a community dinner and meeting in Big Lake recently. It was a positive meeting with a good turnout, and we received feedback on the standing committee of community members that will make recommendations to the board of directors.

There’s plenty of new features, including the ability to customize your website experience, participate in Community Voice discussions on ideas for the city, and access financial services.
Residents who register on the site before June 9 will be entered into a draw for prizes, including a six-month pass to the Cariboo Memorial Complex.

I’m also looking forward to attending the Relay for Life this Saturday.
It will be the 10th anniversary of the event in Williams Lake.
I don’t know anyone who has not lost a friend or loved one to cancer.
When my dad died of lung cancer it changed my life forever.
The relay supports all of the important work the Canadian Cancer Society does.
It’s important to note that 75 per cent of the funds raised at the relay stay in Williams Lake to provide information, education and support to residents.
Thanks to organizing committee chair Michelle McKinnon and all of the volunteers who make the relay happen.
And thank you to all those who participate and who donate! It makes a difference!
