Council ignores risks of Sturgis North event

Organizers of this proposed biker event said the group is a quiet, respectful bunch and mayor and council seemed to be agreeing.

Horrendous surprise, next thing I see in the paper, is that they need $300,000 security protection. Surely the attendees are paying?

Maybe local businesses need the extra income, but won’t the attendees bring their own hardware?

Surely in the face of the following, mayor and council, and the Agricultural Land Commission will seriously reconsider?

Associates of Hells Angels were recently arrested in Salmon Arm with an arsenal of guns, knives, sawed-off shotguns, baseball bats, etc.

Former town councillor Heinz Strobl and a number of others highlight many dire risks like pollution, violence, accidents, graphic adult events, environmental damage and litter. It will scare tourists and families away.

So far, and with deference to any council member with some doubts, it seems council reveals a shallow capacity for independent thought, resulting in careless risk to our citizens and environment.
