Councillors ‘killed’ Sandown proposal

Letter writers oppose decision made at North Saanich council over former racetrack

orth Saanich councillors Browne, Daly, McBride and Mearns chose to ignore the wishes of a strong majority of residents when they killed the Sandown proposal. At numerous council meetings citizens urged these four ideologically-motivated individuals to listen to the wishes of the people who took the time to sign petitions, write letters, make phone calls, and attend meetings.

They refused, and now the proposal is dead.

I hope that people remember how these four councillors voted on this issue, and remove them from office as soon as possible. It is important that people feel that their elected representatives are, indeed, representative of them. When this kind of stunt is pulled it weakens democracy, and increases cynicism.

Neither of those two outcomes are desirable.
