To the editor;

Thank you Barriere.

I would like to say thank you to everyone in Barriere and the North Thompson as it is time for us to say goodbye.

I first moved to Barriere in 1998 with my wife Cathy and daughter Jessica and then Brendan came along.  For the most part our kids grew up in Barriere.  Being in the RCMP family we expect to move every few years and have.  So far, Barriere has been our longest posting at six-and-a-half years plus two prior to that.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working with a number of people in the area including everyone at Barriere Search and Rescue, Tim and the crew at the Barriere Ambulance Station, Al at the Fire Department, Jill at the Star/Journal, the principals and staff at the elementary and high school, Bob and Deb at North River Towing, Town Council, and Tina at Simpcw First Nation.

I have also had the pleasure of working with numerous police officers while here.  These officers are purely friends that will lay their life on the line for me and Canada, and I thank them for that.

Having to police a small community has it’s challenges, and sometimes people are happy with a policeman’s efforts, and some are not so happy.

I do appreciate those who realize that policing can be a difficult job and have an understanding of it’s challenges.

Thank you everyone for what you have brought to my family.

We will see you in Kamloops.

Cpl. Mike Mucha
