Crews come to the rescue

Recently, our bridge foreman was driving down the Channel Parkway when he saw a pony (about one week old) stumble and fall into the river.

He turned around and called me on the radio, so I called the Penticton Indian Band, then rushed over there to help.

By the time I got to where the pony went in, the sweeper operator and pilot car guy were there and pulled the little pony out of the water. The embankment was too steep to get out. While on dry land the pony kept trying to get up but was just too tired.

The Penticton Indian Band members had arrived by then and said he just needed a little time to get up. By the time we started driving away, the pony got up and was OK. If it wasn’t for Bob Finch, Tom Steele and Gerry Kielibiski that poor pony wouldn’t have made it. Thanks guys, you’re all heroes in our books.
