CVRD director raises should be tied to tax savings

I would like to add my support for the view held by Bill Dumont and more recently Simone Black regarding the proposed 33 per cent increase for CVRD directors.

I fully agree with Bill’s view and would like to add to it.

My comment will be civil but rather blunt. What is going on with most elected officials and public sector workers borders on legal extortion of taxpayer money. The relentless tax increases on top of last year’s increases, etc., amounts to compounding in simple economic terms. This practice for the most part is self serving to ensure an ever growing bureaucracy and empire building on the backs of so much of the population on a fixed income. Any manager in the private sector with this kind of philosophy would be fired immediately.

In a more realistic world, I would implement a compensation program for all elected officials and especially senior management at all levels of government that is inversely proportional to the amount of tax dollars saved. In plain language, the more tax dollars saved, the larger the pay increases for those managers and vice versa. That system would sharpen the pencils of our officials in a real hurry.
