Great article and editorial on cycling. Well stated. I couldn’t agree more. After all, what could be better than not only improving one’s health but, and at the same time, improving the environment upon which everyone’s health ultimately depends.
And, local governments everywhere are to be congratulated on trying to improve roadways so that cyclists can co-exist with the motoring public safely.
And, speaking of cyclist safety (including my own), I find it simply amazing that a cyclist can approach Vernon on Highway 97 from either the south or the north travelling on a bike lane that simply disappears at the army camp on the south and at London Drugs on the north, forcing the cyclist to ride in the curb lane which is bordered by a sidewalk.
Now, perhaps I am simply unaware of a cyclists bypass of this unsafe, congested roadway.
But let me make myself clear: To cycle through this busy traffic laden area without a bike lane is to advertise one’s death wish! Especially if one is cycling south and has to climb the hill going past the hospital.
So, come on, Vernon elected officials.
Let’s address this glaring inadequacy and safety issue for the cycling public and create a clearly marked, safe cycle route through Vernon that connects to Highway 97 both north and south.
