Dancers to hold spring concert

It would seem like people took the month of May off from holding events to get ready for the start of what is looking like a busy June.

Unless I missed something along the way, it would seem like people took the month of May off from holding events to get ready for the start of what is looking like a busy June around here in Summerland.

Just from looking at the various calendars of events, there’s everything from cultural discussions to music coming down the pipeline and it’s going to be a great June to get out there and take in a bit of culture.

Having said all that, the first event I’m going to talk about actually happens in the last week of May.

From May 27 to the 29, the Summerland School of Dance is presenting their dance program, Viva Las Vegas, at the Centre Stage Theatre.

Vegas and dancing almost go hand in hand. From the extravagance of the stage shows to the flash and glitz of Elvis there’s no shortage of material for the Summerland School of Dance to draw from to create what is going to be a top-notch production.

Tickets for this show are almost gone, so if you’re interested in this event, act fast.

The show starts at 7 p.m. each day and tickets are available at the Summerland Community Arts Centre.

Once you’ve had a chance to get a bit of dance into your system, the next stop is the Summerland Art Club’s 64th annual Art Show and Sale.

This show features the work of local artists from the Summerland Art Club and has become a fixture in the arts community.

The show takes place on June 4 and 5 at the Old Library Building (or new Arts Council Building, if you like) and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Admission to the show is free and there will be refreshments on hand.

For those feeling a little bit lucky, there’s also a raffle offering the chance to win Norma Elliot’s painting, “And So To Port.”

One final thing I’d like to mention this week is for any students who might be looking for a chance to fully immerse themselves in the Summerland Arts scene this summer and get paid for the chance to do so.

The Marginal Arts Festival is looking for a Festival Promotions Coordinator for the summer, with the position running from mid-June until the end of August.

The position is open to students between the ages of 18 and 30 who are currently enrolled in school and who will be returning to school in the fall.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to get involved with the arts community and who wants to help put on what is shaping up to be a great new festival here in Summerland.

You can find more information about the position by visiting the Marginal Arts Festival’s Facebook page: facebook.com/marginalartsfest/ and, more information about the festival itself, can be found online at marginalarts.ca.
