It’s been a busy April, and there’s still lots going on, which is a really great thing to see happening in Summerland.
The nice range of events that have been happening lately have made for an exciting month around here and, I’m sure, has a lot of people looking for a bit of a break before the next round of fun starts.
If you happen to find yourself looking for some downtime to help round off your busy April, or perhaps you’re just looking to try something new, and relaxing, then there’s some good news coming your way.
As luck would have it, April 30 is world Tai Chi and Qigong day.
For those who aren’t quite sure what Tai Chi or Qigong is, they are both very gentle and relaxing forms of exercise that originated in China.
They both involve slow, dance-like movements that help people relax, improve their posture and even help with energy levels.
The Summerland portion of World Tai Chi and Qigong day takes place at Memorial Park on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and there will be demonstrations of both Qigong and Tai Chi to help people understand a little bit about what both disciplines are and what the differences between the two are.
The event has been organized by Nancy’s Ninjas Tai Chi group and provides a wonderful opportunity for people to try something a little different for an hour. World Tai Chi and Qigong day takes place at 10 a.m. around the world, with the intention of providing 24 hours of continuous Tai Chi.

Events like these always make a great addition to the cultural landscape in any community as they offer people a chance to discover something they might not otherwise have a chance to find out about.
Even when there are groups actively operating in our community, like Nancy’s Ninjas, it can be easy to overlook them without even meaning to, which would be a shame if it turned out this sort of thing is right up your alley.
Be sure to get out there on Saturday and check out the action if you’re curious.
