Don’t dismiss all residents

I take umbrage when Mr. Burg glibly and condescendingly labels all long-term Lake Cowichan residents as those “who sweep everything under the carpet – don’t want to make any changes.”

Evidently, you haven’t noticed that these same “old timers” are the ones who staff our Fire Department, clean up the river, and maintain the fish-stocks, sponsor graduation activities and give generously to youth and local events. They are also the ones to staff the long hours at Lake Days, the 56 kilometre Great Lake Walk, baseball tournaments, and on and on. Their contributions are many-fold the contributions of newcomers.

Open your eyes (and mind) and observe the events in this town.

Over the years in Lake Cowichan, there have been numerous developers who have descended on the town, all promising to save the town.

None have lived up to their grandiose promises.

Worse yet, the town has been left holding the bag for infrastructure expenses, lost beach front access, promised parks, and even wound up paying to plant trees!

What part did Mr. Kelly not understand about the zoning bylaws on the J.H. Boyd property?
