It appears that the subject property on Laburnum Drive in Qualicum Beach will be developed (according to recent stories in The NEWS). My preference would be to leave it in its present pristine state, however this is not to be.
Qualicum Beach Coun. Neil Horner would only support a development of 10 lots. He obviously has not heard, or chooses to ignore, the fact that there is a shortage of affordable housing, as well as rental availability. In view of this approach, it would not surprise me to see the developer just walk away.
Would it not make more sense for council to approve a mixture of single-family lots as well as a town houseĀ development (patio homes)?
My wife and I have been tossing around the idea of downsizing. We also know several other senior couples who may also consider downsizing, providing that there would be attractive affordable units. This effort by council would also benefit young families in their search for adequate accommodation.
