Dress code: pyjamas and jerseys

Welcome to all our visitors to the valley this weekend.

Welcome to all our visitors to the valley this weekend.

I know the community has gotten behind the B.C. Eastern Regional Pond Hockey Championships in a big way, but let’s not forget our lady curlers who are also visiting this weekend.

Perhaps somebody should be considering marketing the two events together next year?

Make it a couples’ weekend, not just for those couples that both play hockey but also for the hockey player/curler couple.

Drats, I should have had this idea a while ago, I know at least one couple that I should have extended a personal invitation to — I will be sure to do so next year.

I know we’re all wearing our hockey jerseys to support the hockey tournament but don’t be surprised to see a few women out and about in their pyjamas as well.

The theme of the Invermere Curling Centre’s ladies’ bonspiel is a slumber party so some of us may be sporting hockey jerseys over pj bottoms!

Good thing we’re not living in Louisiana, where I understand there is a politician who wants to put a ban on wearing pyjama bottoms in public.

After reading about it online, I have to admit understanding his frustration in a way. I don’t think it was the pyjamas that bothered him so much as the fact there was no underwear worn underneath them hence more was visible than there should have been. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that from these ladies!

Of course these aren’t the only two events happening in the valley — the Kinsmen Club’s Snow Golf tournament is on and there may be others too.

I know the Columbia Valley Rockies are at home on Friday evening and would appreciate a noisy crowd – take in the game and cheer them on.

And don’t forget to wear that hockey jersey every where you go, you could win a prize from the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce — read about that contest elsewhere in this issue.

Also be sure to check out the many window and in-store displays created in our local businesses to welcome the Pond Hockey players. Let’s make this a weekend to remember!
