A bunch of frogs in a pot of water on a hot stove

Editor, The Times:

When I first heard of Regina Sadilkova I read some of the nasty vitriolic nonsense she peddled about fining those who refused to leave their fifth wheels in the middle of the winter. Oh big fines, hee hee hee, “If you don’t get out we’ll send you to Siberia.”

Oh sorry, wrong time — wrong country.

I’ve since learned that Sadilkova is a six-figure bureaucrat who really shouldn’t have anything to say, but obviously thinks she does.

However, let’s face it, Sadilkova is only part of the problem. In a sane world this ban the fifth wheels, or at least the people who live in them, would be canceled and we could start all over again.

But a cursory glance about the globe shows such an Alice in Wonderland situation — look at Donald Trump as president of the most powerful nation on the globe. As good an example as any.

Could the Mad Hatter or the March Hare think of something more ludicrous than this nonsense? Serve the residents of fifth-wheels and travel trailers with eviction notice even if they’re living on their own property and for the moment at least it is the only roof over their heads — for now anyway.

Just cancel the nonsensical foolishness brought in in 1973 for whatever reason. But no.

When this all started someone expressed the thought that it was a manifestation of communism. I answered that it felt, for me, like free-market capitalism. I’ve got it all and you can’t have anything! Then I thought of the medieval world — I’m king so my word is final! And you obey or else.

Also, there appears to be some sort of law on the books and we don’t want to give it up. This in part was what made the fight against slavery, against segregation for civil rights, so much harder, so it seems.

In the meantime as Tom Coles pointed out last Wednesday, homelessness is creeping up on us, wages are stagnant, but rents and the cost of food and clothing are going up. We B.C.ers are like a bunch of frogs sitting in a pot of water on a hot stove. Will we jump in time or get boiled away by inflation, homelessness, and in virtual starvation?

And the Mad Queen — off with their heads!
