Editor, The Times:
On Dec. 15, 2019, I wrote a letter to the editor, “The World Thru the Eyes of the Rambling Man.” In the last paragraph, I wrote, “Then there is beautiful B. C., the land of milk and honey, or yogurt and tofu! I’m afraid B. C. will have to wait for another letter.”
This is that letter.
When I look back at the goings-on in B. C. politics in the last year, it would take a book, not a letter, to cover it all! I’ll touch on a few topics that would definitely be in line for the idiot of the year award.
Third place would have to go to the awarding of a contract for the construction of the Pattello Bridge that only union contractors could bid on. Previous to that, the N. D. P. cancelled the Massey Bridge plans that already had permits, environmental studies, and engineers’ reports all in place, at a cost of millions of taxpayers’ dollars.
Second place would have to go to the changes to I. C. B. C. I have to say, “David Eby, you are a disgrace to your own profession. I sure hope that the general public is not prepared to swallow the ‘Pac of Crap’ that you are trying to pour down our throats. All you are doing is adding another layer of bureaucracy to an already bloated system. Taking away our right to legal counsel is totally unconstitutional and what you are trying to achieve is turning I. C. B. C. into the same model as Worksafe B. C.”
Anyone who has had to be on compensation knows what an undemocratic bureaucracy that is.
First place deserves the Nobel Prize for stupidity, and that would have to go to the handling of recent protests in B. C. and the total disregard of people’s rights and safety. This is not about native rights; this is about environmental groups trying to stop pipelines.
The people blocking railroads, ports, and ferry terminals are not environmentalists or protesters. These people are terrorists and should be treated accordingly: arrested, finger-printed, and added to the terrorist list.
I realize that the N. D. P. and the Greens are against the pipeline, and they spent millions of taxpayers’ dollars trying to stop it. However, turning a blind eye to a volatile situation makes them part of the problem, not the solution.
