EDITORIAL: Get your flu shot

It’s something that is easy to put off but you know you shouldn’t

It’s something that is easy to put off but you know you shouldn’t.

In fact if you’re 65 years or older it’s free of charge so there’s not even that lame old excuse.

Certainly it may hurt for a second but a flu shot has been shown to be very effective in warding off illness over the winter months.

And, say what you want about the government, but they make it very easy for you to get a free flu shot – of course they want to save money by keeping you healthy but it’s a win-win for everyone.

So if you’re over 65, or in residential care, or have a chronic health condition, or aboriginal, or…check interiorhealth.ca for details…..get on over to your friendly neighbourhood clinic and get your free shot. You’ll be glad you did.

The next one in Vernon is Thursday at the Schubert Centre from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and others are scheduled for Armstrong, Lumby, Enderby, Falkland and Cherryville, again see interiorhealth.ca for more information.

And for those who don’t qualify for free flu shots, it’s still a good idea to get one to ward off  illness not only for you but for your family, friends and co-workers as well.

There’s seemingly more and more places that are advertising flu shots so access shouldn’t be a problem and the cost is not out of reach for most residents.

Consider it an investment in preventative medicine with the potential to save you plenty of money in flu remedies that you no longer have to purchase later this winter.

Again, for more information on why you should get a flu shot call the flu line at 250-549-6306 or consult, once again, interiorhealth.ca.
