EDITORIAL: Greater Vernon’s time to shine

We will be under the spotlight of local, regional and provincial attention as hosts of the B.C. Winter Games Feb. 23 to 26, 2012.

In just 91 days, B.C. is coming to Vernon.

We will be under the spotlight of local, regional and provincial attention as hosts of the B.C. Winter Games Feb. 23 to 26, 2012.

Athletes, along with their coaches and supporters, from across the province will be training here, staying here and competing here.

Media crews will be filming, shooting and getting up close and personal with Vernon (possibly even putting our home-grown talent on centre stage).

And Vernon, everyone will be watching. Whether they’re in the stands or spectating on the tube or net from home, all eyes are going to be on Vernon and its performance.

B.C. will be staying at our accommodations, eating at our restaurants, shopping in our stores, driving our streets, walking our sidewalks and enjoying our amenities.

All that attention puts pressure on us to act and perform well.

While it can be as simple as a courteous gesture or a warm smile, Vernon has the chance to go above and beyond to really shine.

We can grace the opportunity and welcome the chance by volunteering to make it happen.

More than 1,000 volunteers are on board already, but there is still lots of room for anyone wanting to take part in this momentous occasion.

Without the thousands of volunteers who give their time and energy, the B.C. Games would not be possible.

Thank you for giving Greater Vernon a chance to shine.
