EDITORIAL: Silly season upon us

B.C.’s 41st election has been called and there’s no shortage of issues for voters to think about.

B.C.’s 41st election has been called and there’s no shortage of issues for voters to think about.

Seniors care, health care, education, treaty negotiations, water management and the legalization of marijuana to name a few.

Whether it is the NDP’s plan for $10 a day childcare, the Greens’ affordable housing program or the Liberals’ $20,000 home renovation tax credit for seniors, there will be lots of information to wade through as parties release their platforms and make attempts to explain the finer points or attack those of the other parties.

In this region voters are divided into two ridings — Cariboo-Chilcotin and Cariboo North so the Tribune will be featuring all seven candidates leading up to general voting day on May 9.

Running in Cariboo North are Scott Elliott NDP, Tony Goulet B.C. Conservative,  Richard Jaques Green Party and Liberal incumbent Coralee Oakes who running for a second term.

In Cariboo-Chilcotin Donna Barnett is vying for a third term, while Sally Watson is the NDP candidate and Rita Giesbrecht is the BC Green Party candidate.

With slight amendments made to the ridings, some of us will be voting for a Cariboo-Chilcotin candidate this time whereas in 2013 we voted for a Cariboo North candidate.

Throughout the campaign the Tribune will feature the candidates’ answers to questions posed by our readers.

If you have a question you would like us to ask please e-mail it to editor@wltribune.com  or call 250-392-2331.
