The six city council spots went to: Ed Coleman with 1,733,

It’s over.

For better or worse, it’s blissfully over.

Saturday by 8:30 p.m. the numbers were coming in and with them applause, tears, disappointment, hugs, congratulations and condolences.

Who said politics was boring?

In the end, incumbent Mayor Mary Sjostrom took top spot with 1,057 votes, over second place, Ron Paull with 955 and Ron Craigmyle with 831.

The six city council spots went to: Ed Coleman with 1,733, Scott Elliott with 1,679, Mike Cave with 1,615, Laurey-Anne Roodenburg with 1,348, Sushil  Thapar with 1,333 and John Brisco with 1,233.

The four runners, not securing a spot were: Trevor Guldbransen with 1,169, Mitch Vik with 1,100, Paul Kainth with 1,087 and Cory Delves with 1,045.

School District 28 also had a race with 10 trustees running for seven spots. The new board consists of: Ron Caskey with 1,826, Charlotte Kurta with 1,701, Howie Schonke with 1,690, Caroline Mitchell with 1,794, Tony Goulet with 1,855, Gloria Jackson with 1,795 and George Natalizio with 1,693.

The three runners not securing a trustee position were: Blanca Schorcht with 1,090, Cody Dillabough with 1,345 and Betty Walters with 1,612.

To each and every single one of you – thank you.

It takes time, money, patience, dedication, pride and commitment to put one’s name forth and the job is never an easy one.

And yet they did. They threw their hat in the sometimes not-so-friendly political ring and let it stand.

Why?

Because they care about this community.

No matter your political affiliation, let’s give pause and thanks to those willing to stand up for what they believe in.

It’s people like these that make this community what it is – a great place to live.
