It’s official — all candidates in the 2011 municipal, regional, and school trustee elections have been announced.
All candidates had to have their papers in by the Friday, 4 p.m. deadline.
There are 14 people running for council — only six can be elected — and three running for mayor.
In the Cariboo Regional District, there will be 12 directors elected — or acclaimed, as some are unchallenged.
In School District 27, there are also a number of acclaimed candidates, but those running in zones 4 through 7 are vying for a spot on the school board.
The municipal election is definitely shaping up to be an interesting one, with several well-known names on the candidate list, as well as some less-knowns to shake things up a bit.
We are looking forward to all-candidates forums — only one forum, for the school district, has been scheduled so far.
In previous editorials, we have written about the importance of becoming involved in the election process, either by running as a candidate or simply by showing up at the voting stations on Election Day Saturday, Nov. 19 and making your voice count.
We reiterate that message and also encourage residents to make sure they choose their candidates wisely — by attending all-candidate forums, speaking with the candidates directly, and getting informed so they can make the right choice.
