Electric vehicles won’t help reduce fossil fuels
To satisfy the pressure put on governments by the environmentalists, the big push is to replace fossil fuel burning vehicles with electric ones.
As a mechanic, and in my humble opinion, this will be a huge mistake, as in all probability, it will in no way reduce the amount of CO2 from the burning of fossil fuel.
When electric vehicles become “used” they will be a “hard sell” and in all probability, very few people will want them. There will be the question of battery condition, the cost of battery replacement and electrical problems that will ultimately ensue. In other words they will be a throw away item after a rather limited battery life, compared to vehicles of present era.
Digging up tons and tons of material required to make batteries, requires fossil fuel to do so. Also, not to mention the limited supply of lithium required to build batteries.
Building replacement electric vehicles at a faster rate will also require more fossil fuel and the list goes on and on.
However, politicians listen to the voters, voters listen to the environmentalists, and neither are concerned with common sense, and above all, the mechanics that fix vehicles including the work involved in troubleshooting electrical problems.
Anyway, that’s my humble opinion!
