Re: Fixing the E&N a waste of money, Letters, April 20, 2011.
I congratulate Francine Khan for her recent letter with a firm grasp of reality and informing the public on the slippery slope of fiscal responsibility regarding the cost of upgrading the old E&N railway; and, prompting me to expand on my letter of the same day regarding costs.
It has been reported that $15 million is required to replace up to 1,500 railway ties along the rail line. The E&N rail line form Victoria to Courtenay is 225 kilometres.
At this rate, anyone doing the math for the cost per tie or the number of ties per kilometers will soon realizes nothing really adds up.
Again, the paying public should be aware of politicians and promoters promising projects of little value.
