Re: High contamination rates in bags garner warning on recycling, Nov. 1.

On the last survey we talked to the person checking out recycling efforts and they were very impressed with our efforts; in fact the sticker is still on the yellow bag. Suddenly it is no longer correct.

Not suddenly, actually; the fact is Multi Material B.C. has sent out several information brochures in the mail which change and limit the items to be recycled. In other words, it is moving the goal posts and accepting fewer items.

Maybe before recycling manager Charlotte Davis begins “getting firmer now” she ought to check the tonnage being diverted from the landfill. In my opinion, with the new restrictions, that amount diverted will be going down.

Every time we get it all straight a new brochure comes out with a new change. Small wonder people are getting fed up. Personally, I will only put up with one refusal to pick up and will then begin making my own trips to the landfill with everything I need to dispose of. This in spite of already paying for garbage pickup and recycling as well as the added expense of dump fees, time and fuel expenses.

If you keep changing the rules, no one is going to want to play. Get it right the first time and stop irritating the people you are trying to get to co-operate with you.
