To the Editor,
Re: Neil Young’s latest hit, Editorial cartoon, Jan. 16.
Corporations deny hazards as long as long as possible. They deny that drilling and fracking is sucking northern lakes and rivers dry and contaminating million of gallons of water. Gravity of transporting risks over land and sea of explosive fuels or oil sands diluted in chemicals is denied. Any odds of devastations to environment and people is played down automatically.
Companies camouflage greedy intentions with alluring job promises to get locals and governments all work out. So cheerleading politicians covet to enlarge fossil fuel extractions instead of building more efficient mass transit.
Although human lives and environment are non-refundable, this energy scavenger hunt is going on without mercy. Since damage prevention reduces income, many companies readily take risks. Extra energy, not improved quality, enables them to make, advertise and market more awful nonsense. For a profit they would sell a rope to be hanged with. Except this time the noose is around our necks too.
