Re: A. Powell letter, “It’s about choice” in regard to lingerie football. Mr. Powell writes a very interesting letter about how Abbotsford should avoid trivial matters like lingerie football, and focus on bigger issues, because he argues “…it’s about the freedom of choice.”
It is not that lingerie football is evil in itself, but we must ask a very important question. Why do people watch this sport?
I would have to argue that it is lust and self-indulgence that are the root cause. This sport also enforces the negative view that girls have to look a certain way to be accepted.
I agree with Mr. Powell when he says, “Stop and think about all the other moral issues that really do need addressing, such as the rise in crime in Abbotsford, shootings, drugs, grow-ops, rape.”
These issues need to be addressed, but what are the underlying issues that start these horrible crimes?
In my opinion that is why lingerie football has become such a big issue in Abbotsford.
Freedom of choice is a good thing, but not all choices are good.
Should society allow lingerie football to happen in its public facilities if it contributes to erosion of moral standards?
