I would like to congratulate the clever driver of a pickup truck with trailer who showed initiative and ingenuity in the afternoon of Thursday, June 29, when a truck had spilled its load on the roundabout in Qualicum Beach, blocking the entrance to the roundabout from the southbound lane of Laburnum/Rupert.
This incident caused a backup of stopped vehicles reaching back past the concrete lane divider.
The clever driver of the pickup truck in question took it upon himself to drive his truck and trailer through the northbound lane on the wrong side of the concrete barrier, into opposing traffic, just after we had exited the roundabout onto the northbound lane of Rupert/Laburnum.
Luckily, my wife was able to, just in time, pull over to the right as far as she could go. Luckily, he did not kill us or anybody else. Luckily, there was not yet a police presence. Lucky, because he did not do this in England where recently a person was beaten to death with a shovel in a road-rage incident.
We are indebted to this very lucky individual for giving us (barely) enough time to pull over and perhaps some of his luck would rub off on us if he were willing to buy us a lottery ticket.
