So this is Christmas, and what have you done?
The words of the John Lennon song still ring true after all these years.
It’s a question we should be asking ourselves as we prepare for the final day before the gifts are opened on Christmas day.
You’ve taken care of your family and your friends, but what about the rest of the people? We know we don’t have the resources to help every person in need around the world, but we definitely can do something to help those in need in our own community.
We know many of you have already donated, whether it was a large amount or a small one, whether it was an anonymous donation to a Salvation Army kettle or taking some food and presents to a family in need in your neighbourhood.
And we thank you for that.
But for those who have forgotten their charitable contribution somewhere in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s not too late.
Maybe you don’t have any more money or gifts to donate. Donate your time. Call one of the local groups which prepare Christmas dinner for the needy, and ask if you can help somehow.
Or if it’s time you’re pressed for during this hectic season, wait until the season has passed.
Because as well all know, the need exists year-round. Therefore there is always an opportunity to lend a hand and keep the season’s spirit of giving alive all year.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
