Now I understand what is wrong at City Hall. The City Fathers do not like kids.
If the project is for young people, then forget it.
If thousands spent on keeping the Old Bridge closed were spent for a skate park, we would have a skate park.
Give it another 20 years when some of the City Fathers have moved on.
Or maybe, just maybe, when the airport problems are solved the City Fathers might build a skate park at the end of the airport runway, and then run city buses out twice a day for the kids with their skateboards.
It’s a no-brainer but, forget it, it is still for young people.
I am reminded of an incident about three years ago when I decided to check and see how the kids were doing after the Old Bridge was closed.
There was a city service truck sitting on the Riverside Ave. side with a city employee assigned to stop kids from crossing and climbing over the barriers.
And I saw it happen when, about a seven-or-eight-year-old young fellow got stopped and sent back across the bridge by the employee.
I am sure he made the kid cry and the kid would have to explain to his mother why he was late getting home.
That was when the barbed wire was ordered and put in place.
