To the Editor,
Firstly, the March 10 editorial cartoon was bang-on – women are still only seen (mostly at least) as good floor sweepers and not corporate CEOs.
How ironic there’s a woman in charge of the whole province. Now if she were only in the right party.
But today I wanted to comment on the Poverty debate needs enrichment column. Besides enrichment, it could stand to tell the “whole truth” about its stats.
The government is only good at misleading us with half truths, the media needs to finish off their sentences sometimes.
For instance, the writer states the Liberals are paying for medical needs of lower-incomers (and persons with disability).
What most people don’t know is that those medical rates are over 10 years old. Using 10-year-old schedules means the low-incomers have to pick up the difference with their food/shelter money.
The cost of a simple filling at the dentist is $40 or $60. That’s a lot for low incomers.
It’s the same with prescriptions or physio and on and on.
Tell this government to wake up and catch up if they really want to help.
