Grad thanks the community of Clearwater

I will never forget what a small town has given me

Editor, The Times:

I would like to thank the community of Clearwater for its generous support of Grad 2014. To the many businesses and families that helped make Grad 2014 a success, thank you. Thank you to the people that volunteered, thank you to the parents that helped make the Dry Grad and Prom such a success.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers and administration of Clearwater Secondary School. I have had an amazing school career. I have enjoyed participating in several sports and doing well thanks to the volunteer time of teachers. Thank to you to the many teachers who challenged me in school and helped me explore new opportunities and supported me to try new things and took the time to help make it happen.

Lastly, I would like to thank the community of Clearwater for many generous scholarships and bursaries. I feel privileged to live in a community that values post-secondary opportunities. I don’t know of many other communities that are so generous with their funding.

Post secondary has become extremely expensive. It’s not just the education, it’s the cost to live away from home. I was very fortunate to benefit from the scholarship and bursary program and I consider myself lucky.

Growing up in Clearwater has provided me with some unbelievable opportunities. I have had teachers who believed in me, a community to support me and a family that always stood behind me. I will never forget what a small town has given me. I have never envied my friends who grew up in a city because as far as I’m concerned, I’ve had everything I needed and more from living in Clearwater. One day, I hope I can be in a position to offer the same “give back”.

Thank you Clearwater, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to grow up.
