Dear Editor:
On Dec. 16, 2011, my parents, Arthur and Elsie Jacques passed away just a few hours apart, in Moog and Friends Hospice House.
Mom’s memory was failing and she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer one year ago.
Dad was diagnosed with abdominal cancer more recently, adding to other health issues that he suffered from.
Through all this, my sister, Alison Jacques, and I have received a tremendous amount of support from our family, friends, and the community. I wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of you who came to their funeral service, who phoned us, emailed us, sent cards and flowers, and dropped off baked goodies (for which we’re particularly grateful!)
I want to also acknowledge a number of other people who helped us care for our parents in the last year of their lives.
o their physicians, Dr. Bannerman and Dr. Severide
o the staff at Summerland Pharmasave, who worked tirelessly to fill their ever changing prescriptions.
o the staff at the Penticton Regional Hospital Oncology Department.
o the Home Care Nurses and support staff, for the quality care they gave Mom and Dad, which enabled them to remain comfortably in their own home.
o the staff of Moog and Friends Hospice House, who also helped to make Mom and Dad at ease in their last days.
o numerous other doctors, paramedics and related medical staff who helped our folks through this difficult year.
Those wanting to make a donation in their memory may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society.
On behalf of my sister and the Jacques and Hack families, I thank you all.
Tom Jacques
