Thanks for the article on the Launching Pad.
It, for the most part, was informative and accurate. There was a paragraph, however, that indicated that the Pad was in jeopardy of closing in 2007 due to the owner selling out.
(Editors’ note: the information about the sale was based on a B.C. government news release issued when the province provided $250,000 in the form of a grant toward the purchase of the building, as well as another $500,000 in the form of a mortgage.)
I would like to state that this is inaccurate. The only reason that the Pad exists is because of the then-owners, the Houston Family, and Ed Warnke working together.
In fact, the Houston family decided to sell the property to the society at a price that was under market valuation. As well, the Houston family donated $50,000 from the proceeds back to the Launching Pad.
The Houston family is still the largest single supporter of the Pad and are key to its continued viability.
