Great program

I would like to advise anyone who uses the health care system in Vernon of a program that exists for anyone needing assistance in regaining their independence.

It is a terrible thing to have a fall, accident or a stroke or just anything that robs us of our independence. This can happen through no fault of our own and it can be a long, daunting journey back.

This is where the East program comes in.

You can enter this from a stay in the hospital or attend it from your home. You need a doctor’s referral to enter the program.

I was introduced to it originally through a stay in the hospital when I fell and broke my pelvis and my right wrist.

I was transferred from the hospital to the short-stay program at Gateby via a stretcher. I was introduced to the East program the following day.

My stay was for a week and in that short time, I was able to walk again with the aid of a walker and I was able to go home and manage quite well. This was only because I was fortunate enough to get help through the system. I stayed in the program while at home and by doing this, I was insured a total recovery.

The physiotherapists and therapy assistants are more than qualified to help anyone who is willing to work along with them. They also give educational talks on topics such as diet, exercise and lifestyle. It’s a win, win situation.

It is such a blessing to have a program like this offered to anyone needing help getting their independence back that I feel obligated to inform the public of its existence.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to all of the workers who were responsible for my successful recovery.

I couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.
