HEROES AND ZEROS

People like you make this world a better place

HERO – John Kilgour of Kilgour Plumbing a sink full of Roses for the great job he did in installing our Dishwasher at the Centre. Thank you John for all your hard work . People like you make this world a better place. – Campbell River Seniors’ Centre Society

ZERO – A person that lives on Oregon Road. I cannot believe the lack of common sense, ignorance and lack of respect for people in the neigborhood of a person that has the gall to leave her 20-plus garbage and gardening garbage out in the road and does not bring in the cans or buckets of full or half full of trash at end of garbage day pickup; instead just leaves it outside on the sidewalk/driveway and puts a plastic sheet over it. How dare you. Who do you think you are to leave your crap outside for everybody to see day after day, weeks on end? We live in a beautiful neighborhood in Willow Point in half-million-dollar homes and up here in paradise and not in a garbage dump. Please clean up your mess and give our beautiful neighborhood a break. Thank You. – From a Happy Neighbor

HEROES – In March of this year, Campbell River’s two dragon boat teams, the BraveHearts and River Spirit, collaborated with an idea…to hold our own Dragon Boat Festival, like so many other communities do on Vancouver Island. The idea of the 2011 Race the River Dragon Boat Regatta was born, but it was going to take a lot of work and a lot of people to make it happen. Between both teams there were approximately 75 Cancer survivors and their supporters willing to work hard, but we needed more…Once again, the community of Campbell River rose to the challenge and on July 3, the idea became a reality when over 300 dragon boat competitors and as many spectators from all over Vancouver Island converged on the Tyee Spit for dragon boat racing! The resounding response from all of the visiting teams was that this was one of the best dragon boat festivals they had ever been to and they will be sure to spread the word and will be coming back again next year! The BraveHearts Dragon Boat Team and Team River Spirit would like to send a very big thank you to the following people and businesses who helped put Campbell River on the map for being the place to come, to “race the river”: Ross Milnthorpe; Rebecca Horlyck; Joyce Morozoff; Nonie Lambert; Brian Saunderson; Melissa Heidema; Canada Day Committee; Carol Chapman; Ian Baikie; Judy Sheply; Jamie Harris; Larry Samson; Marita Brostrom; Quality Signs; Bill Jay; Barry Peters; Department of Fisheries and Oceans; Doug Grant; Grant Signs Ltd.; Suzanne Schoenfelder; Diann Arnett; Campbell River Search and Rescue; Erin Wilson; Shopper’s Drug Mart; The Raven Forest Group; Barney Stratton; Brian Walter; John Parkes; Ken McVay; City of Campbell River; Campbell River parks department; Mayor Charlie Cornfield; Marine Harvest; Serious Coffee; Eric Benson; Gord Reimer; Sandy Richardson; Pat Redhead; Ann Roberts; Ted Waltho; Marina Wood; Barb Todd; Chris Perras; Judy Nordman; Nancy Calado; Harry Kerr; Mo Robinson; Anne Davey; Cath Twomey; Marg Pickard; Jim Lilburn; Salmon Festival Society; St. John’s Ambulance; Adam Cameron; Dan Samson; Barry Ritchie; Mike Dodds; Dave Proctor; John Durand; Dale Martel; Home Depot; Outdoor Addictions; Kettle Korn; Peterout; Tin Town; Gerald Wrohan; Steve Marshall Ford; Comox Recreation; Walco Industries Ltd.; Courier-Islander; Campbell River Mirror; 99.7FM The River; 97.3FM The Eagle; Vancouver Island Air; West Coast Helicopters; Quinsam Hatchery; Charlie Bassett; Bob’s Floors; Corilair; Tyee Club; Quality Foods; Spirit Square; The Aquaholics Dragon Boat Team; The Flying Dragons Dragon Boat Team; Angels Abreast Dragon Boat Team; Hope Afloat Dragon Boat Team; Blazing Paddles Dragon Boat Team; Pearl Warriors Dragon Boat Team; Quicksilver Dragon Boat Team; Dragon Slayers Dragon Boat Team; Prevailing Wins Dragon Boat Team; Ladies of the Lake Dragon Boat Team; Dragonflies Dragon Boat Team. HEROES – Many thanks for a renovation job extremely well done by Matt Ellis and his Rimfire Construction crew. Matt was never too busy to answer our many questions, despite having to put up with a very “high maintenance customer,” and always came through with ideas, opinions and suggestions that exceeded our expectations. The work was completed as scheduled and the service provided was above and beyond what we expected from a general contractor.  Campbell River and surrounding communities are, in our opinion, very fortunate to have Matt and the Rimfire crew available to work for you. Herb and Rene Chambers, Squamish, B.C.
