Hitting financial wall

Re: A fresh perspective, The News, Jan. 14.

Thank heavens for our dedicated, astute city councillor, Henry Braun, and News reporter Kevin Mills for the informative article he wrote.

Braun’s  statement that the city’s number one issue is financial planning, and his genuine concern that the city will be hitting a financial wall by 2015-16, under this present management is worrisome, indeed.

One can only wonder – does anyone care at city hall?

Could there be far too many folks feeding at the trough of an ill-imagined well of plenty?

One thing is certain. The general taxpayers do care a great deal. They will not stand by idly to be milked to death slow but sure. And that is guaranteed.

Another troubling concern Braun brought forward is the city’s dealings with the Heat hockey club that cost the taxpayers millions of dollars already. I truly hope that Braun will keep on digging to find a quick solution to get rid of this costly albatross hung around necks of a terribly dissatisfied public.

As a matter a fact, I find it down right embarrassing to read in the Jan. 14, 2013 Macleans magazine how that from the 99 stupid things governments did with our monies last year Abbotsford is listed as number one by handing out a $115.000 “one time grant” to a struggling municipal golf course.

In a report, city staff said “good weather” was among the things being worked on to turn it around.

With such bright lights handling our municipal coffers we had better hope that a few more councillors the likes of Henry Braun will swiftly step up to the plate to rescue a sinking ship.

Way to go, Henry. Thanks so much for your genuine efforts. It is so much appreciated.
