How is your boat building going? Since I am not much of a carpenter, I have opted to simply tie my canoe to the back steps.
I already have my fishing rod, tent and a cooler packed into it, but I’m not sure yet where I am going to put Teresa or the cats.
Like numerous other Okanagan residents, I’m slightly concerned with just exactly how much of our garden will still be alive when this week of downpour is complete.
So what the heck is with all the rain this June and last? Global warming or global wetting?
Oh well, as nasty as the weather may be around the valley we should be thankful we do not live in some other parts of the world, such as India where a monsoon this week has left more than 100 dead and 1,000 people without homes.

Since your garden is too wet to work in, and apparently the rain is supposed to slow down or stop on Saturday, I have a suggestion on what the family can do while everything dries out.
Number one my good idea list is to help the Gospel Mission.
For more than 35 years, the Gospel Mission in Kelowna have been quietly (okay, perhaps not always so quietly) working diligently towards helping others in need.
This weekend, you have a chance to give back.
The Gospel Mission is celebrating their birthday with day-long celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at City Park.
The organization is planning a BBQ, cake (of course) music and family fun throughout the event, held next to the Jubilee Bowl.
In addition to assisting folks for 35 years, the event also marks the fifth anniversary of the 35K club —so it is really a double celebration.
Music fans are in for a real treat as one of my favourite local groups, Cowboy Bob, will perform at noon (just before the cake cutting).
Cowboy Bob is comprised of Curtis Tulman, Rod Millar, Gary Smyth, and Bob Verge.
They’re an amazing foursome of multi-talented musicians who began playing classic tunes from the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s as a way to challenge their instrumental skills and has evolved into a totally enjoyable musical experience.
In addition, all four members are truly wonderful, caring people who are constantly assisting others without any expectations.
They are an inspiration to me and simply world class characters.
If you take in the show, make sure and wish Mr. Tulman a happy birthday, which he celebrates June 25.
Aside from the Bobs, other great music will be provided by the Graham Ord Bluegrass Band, the Paul Byrne Band, and the amazing Michaela Burger.
Kelowna Gospel Mission’s mandate has always been, “feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and help the hurting…”
There is no question that the caring and dedicated folks at the Gospel Mission have successfully done so for more than three decades and deserve our community thanks and support.
Bless you folks for all that you do and have done. Happy anniversary.

Congratulations to Donna Robichaud who recently announced she has taken over as owner of Floodlight Business Solutions Group.
Donna has stepped into the position formerly held by her creative and personable husband Don, who tragically passed away earlier this year.

Speaking of success, should any hockey fans be surprised that three of the first four games in the best of seven Stanley Cup final have gone into overtime?
When the series began, I predicted it would go all seven games with the seventh going into overtime. I have no reason to change that now.
While my heart is with Boston, it is simply neat to see two of the original six NHL teams battling for hockey’s Holy Grail—even if it is mid June.

Last but not least, doctors reports released this morning (Thursday) now reveal that coffee is not only good for you but that it also lowers blood pressure.
Hmm… I guess I must have known that as well since I have been pouring the stuff into my system pretty much nonstop since age 17.
Can’t wait now for further studies on beer.
