The next time you peruse my HodgePodge column, the 10th annual Night of the Arts will be over—so I share this exciting new info now.
The tremendously popular Bluegrass band The Trip’s have agreed to play the final spot for this annual fundraiser concert set for Nov. 7 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
The Trips are a captivating and talented collection of musicians that have garnered a lot of interest in the local music scene the last two years.
In keeping with a tradition of hosting new performers during the Night of the Arts, the jaw-dropping talented Sami Al-khalili will also make a guest appearance on stage.
Sami is a virtual one-man band who uses a drum box and throat singing as part of his show.
Headlining the evening will be a reunion of the popular roots/country band The Cruzeros.
The Kelowna band ruled the B.C. country/roots genre for more than a decade and performed professionally for some 25 years before finally going their own way some three years ago.
The boys were supposed to headline the 8th annual Night of the Arts; however, had to cancel at the last minute due to an injury to lead singer Barry Mathers.
The band promises to make up for the two-year delay.
The always entertaining Robert Fine and his 15-piece Dreamland Band have also all agreed to donate their time to the night.
In addition, my dear friend, folk singer and songwriter Keith ‘Poppa’ Thom will play several originals as well as accompany the amazing vocalist Deb Stone for a guest appearance.
Staff at Metro Community has been working very hard to organize a large silent auction featuring art work by Okanagan artists. Numerous other silent auction items will be available including hockey memorabilia from Shut Out Sports.
All proceeds (with the exception of wine and beer sales) will go towards assisting Metro Community—an organization assisting those with homelessness or addiction issues.
The night is a wonderful event bringing musicians, artists, and community together to assist others. All musicians donate their time to the evening.

I have little space and less time this week so here is a condensed version on the upcoming NHL which started this week. Chicago will face and beat Boston for the Stanley Cup.
The Bruins will have defeated Pittsburgh to win the Eastern Conference while Anaheim will lose the Western Division to Chicago.
Vancouver will actually surprise everyone by sneaking into the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference, thanks to a tumble by Minnesota late in the year.
Bounce-back year for the Sedin twins and goalie Ryan Miller.
John Tavares edges out Steven Stamkos and Sidney Crosby (both injured briefly in the season) for the scoring championship.
