I recently attended a public hearing regarding the 37 lot development on the corner of Resthaven and McDonald Park roads and I can honestly say I learned something I did not know.
I thought that the Mayor and council worked for the citizens of Sidney. All the councillors with the exception of Tim Chad said they work for the betterment of the town of Sidney. They believe that Sidney needs more families and high density to save it as the seniors were either dying or moving out.
As a senior I do apologize, I did not know we were the cause of the town dying. They did not seem to care about the concerns the residents and tax payers expressed regarding their feeling of safety, congested traffic, the enjoyment of their homes and more. Every person in Sidney who owns their home better pay attention, the council and mayor at any time can decide the lot next to you or the aged houses around you are the next target for small lots and big houses and you will not be able to stop them.
Personally, I feel only one (Tim Chad) came with an open mind and the debate was evidently the councillors telling us how it was going to be. The developer must have felt very confident on the outcome of the hearing, as the next morning they were walking the lot and making plans.
