Hugs and Slugs

Huge Hugs to Mannie Roberts and the DQ/Arby Staff and other volunteers and donaters for once again providing a delicious Turkey Dinner on Christmas Day to over 350 hungry folks. Such a wonderful tradition.

Hugs: Large hugs for all those who kept the downtown businesses running, but some slight slugs for many of the uptown businesses who just didn’t play Christmas music. Went into some of the fast food places over the holidays and found that come consistently played rap music or a noise very close to it. Please, owners and managers, try harder next year to give your businesses more the Christmas spirit by playing pleasant Christmas music.

Hugs? Slugs? Hmm why has the local paper become ‘what is happening with local RCMP?’ I know there is news out there …Where is it? Local sports and the cops news is the majority of the paper these days. We realize the RCMP need a reputation boost but is this really the way? NO. Hugs to any reporters out there reporting actual news for our local paper. Keep it up.

Hugs: My wife & I want to thank, and praise, the First Response – Fire and Ambulance personnel of Cranbrook for their care and attention to me on Dec. 6. Also, the CRH Emergency people on duty that day, who treated and cared for me. There was also a kind and extremely considerate lady who was first at the scene of the accident. The police and friends treated my wife with care and compassion as she came to the scene of my accident. Fortunately no one was hurt.

Thank You ALL as you cared for me that day. We, the people of Cranbrook, are so well provided with compassionate neighbours, professional safety and health personnel, and people who are immediately responsive to life’s situations. Thank you

Hugs to the Soul Sisters for having a dream and a vision not only for a business but also for the community as a whole, and for following it. More hugs to them for their willingness to do the hard work necessary to bring it to pass.

Hugs: To Aura who works at every Community Connections Bingo. Aura you are so friendly, and such a delight to deal with every time I go. You deserve this hug and I know that there are more people there that would offer them as well!

Slugs to the drivers who don’t follow at a safe distance, especially when the roads are slippery. Under good driving conditions, you should be three seconds behind the car you’re following.

Hugs to WildSight for bringing the Banff Mountain Film Festival to Cranbrook for the past 25 years. The stories have inspired me to be a better person, and have become an amazing part of our family’s history … looking forward to the next 25 years!

Huge Hugs to the lady at the Cranbrook Pharmasave for secretly purchasing the snowman for my mother. She was absolutely absolutely thrilled, and without a doubt you made her day!!! She has been through a lot this last year, and it really warmed my to heart to see her receive such kindness and generosity out of the blue. Thank you again for your kindness

Slugs to the people that send slugs.

Hugs: Huge hug to the gals and guys at Dacota Frieght for getting our UPS parcels delivered to us in time for Christmas. They were all so friendly and helpful in spite of being so over loaded with all the packages affected by the postal strike. We certainly appreciated your efforts and kindness at each of our several visits.

Hugs: to all the Ice players and coaches that are left trying to keep the Bismark from sinking. You guys are awesome! We the fans respect your courage and effort at every home game.

Slugs: to the owners of the Ice. If it wasn’t for those young men that faithfully and courageously come out to entertain the fans that have loved the Ice for 20 years you could have left town well before Christmas. You trade the older experienced players and expect these young guys to be able to fend off the older opposition that come to town. We the fans love those young guys for bravery at every game. Kudos guys. We also realize that it is a business and your money but we thought it was a three-year deal and we the season ticket holders put our money out on season tickets to make it just that and I know I can speak for the majority — “We are not happy.”

Slugs to Canada’s team at the Canadian World Junior Hockey tournament for running up the score 14-0 in the game against Denmark. This was very poor sportsmanship and did not make many fans for the Canadians. Karma got you in the end as there was no medal for the first time in many years.

Slugs to the Kootenay Ice management for firing Coach Vopat because he tweeted his thoughts on the hockey tournament. Another poor decision from a team that is at the bottom of the league and will remain there with the present management.

A big hug for CMB — safe travels and good luck with all the legal brouhaha all this month of January.
