There seems to be serious discussions about cancelling the game of hockey because of concussions. Why not try some new ideas, such as, number one: gloves on and helmet off when they have a need to fight; number two: redesign the helmets.
Not being an expert in this field, I have some suggestions:
a) For the outside skin of the helmet, a lightweight shell densely rubberized and the next layer perhaps a dense foam (thin layer).
b) How about the inner layer of the helmet to contain material (like car air bags), which instantly inflates with air on contact, or air stored in shoulder pads, etc. (or whatever)?
And the layer next to the skin should have highly pressurized air blown into a bladder of some kind that fits itself around the contour of the player’s head.
These are my amateur ideas and I’m sure there are a million out there by fans and players who want to save their health and the game.
It would be appreciated if ideas like this could be relayed to those who are experts in such things.
