In 4 years, will politicians have made a difference?
Four years from now, when our current crop of local elected officials look back on their term, what will they have achieved?
Citizens were asked to directly vote on two of the most important priorities in the valley — water and housing — and they gave a mandate for progress on both. How will our politicians live up to that?
Those issues are tightly bound with both reconciliation with First Nations and climate change, and will only get more urgent.
My hope is that our politicians rise to the occasion and make the real changes their voters want. My fear is that they will succumb to inertia and a lack of ambition.
People run for office to make a difference. In four years, I sincerely hope they will have succeeded.
